Ages 18–24: Yes. Texas law requires you to complete a 6-hour Adult Driver Education (ADE) course.
Ages 25+: It is not legally required, but it is highly recommended. Taking the 6-hour course allows you to take the written "Knowledge Test" with us (or online) instead of at the crowded DPS office.

Once you complete your 6-hour course and pass the written exam, you’ll receive a certificate (ADE-1317). Take that to the DPS along with your identification documents to get your Restricted B License (your adult permit).
